About Shirley

Shirley began training dogs in 1976. She has lived with many breeds, including Afghan Hounds, Poodles, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Australian Shepherds, Beagles, Labrador Retrievers and Collies, but her favorite breed is the Golden Retriever. She has shared her life with ...

Shirley is a member of the Fort Detroit Golden Retriever Club ( FDGRC, since 1978), National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors ( NADOI, since 1999, member #728), Association of Pet Dog Trainers ( APDT, since 1995, member #333). She is a Canine Good Citizen ( CGC) Evaluator, and a behavior counselor for Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society (GPAAS) and Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society ( MACS).

Shirley has also been a member of Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers (CAPPDT), a field trainer for Paws with a Cause, and an Animal Evaluator for the Delta Society.

Shirley has attended numerous educational seminars and conferences, on both dog training and behavior. Presenters that were particularly informative included John Rogerson, Sylvia Bishop, Brenda Aloff, William Campbell, Kayce Cover and Karen Pryor. "Countless number of enjoyable learning sessions, and I feel privileged to have been able to learn from the finest dog behaviorists and trainers of our time."
